Headhunterz – The Fear Of Darkness Review

cs342034-01a-bigMr. Headhunterz is once again back with a new release on Scantraxx Reloaded. Has he finally done something really mindblowing and good? Has he changed his style and made something that will give you goosebumps because it’s so good? The answer is a resounding no . Once again he has made two typical, boring nu-style tracks which really don’t affect you at all. It’s slightly better than his previous release (which was horrible) and it seems like Headhunterz actually tried to make something a bit more original this time but failed. He has changed his kicks from the usual metallic TOK TOK kicks to something new and better. That is one of the very few good things in this release. Otherwise it’s rather bland and boring.

Let’s start with The Fear Of Darkness. The intro is basically just some random screeches combined with a boring kick and it’s nothing special at all .
After a couple of minutes of boringness, a typical long nu-style break starts. The vocals in the break are really deep and mysterious and they create a good atmosphere which makes you gather all your “go wild energy” and you’re just waiting to let yourself go fucking wild. After a while a pretty decent melody kicks in combined with an average synth which is neither good or bad. It’s OK but nothing peculiar. The climax starts and this is where the good things come to an end.
The melody gets really boring and messy after about a minute. Why didn’t he just change the melody a bit more in the second climax? The track could have been alot better if he had done that and you wouldn’t have to think “oh please just let the climax end”
Oh and what about the kicks? Well…no TOK TOK kicks but they are certainly not that overwhelmingly good.

Let’s see what the b-side has to offer.

A New Day is slightly better than the a-side but it still doesn’t give you any “WOW!” effect.
Yes, as many people have mentioned, the intro does sound very similar to Noisecontrollers – Shreek, except that the Shreek intro is alot better than this one. In the beginning of the intro, some kind of break kicks in which contains the main melody and it makes you a bit confused. What? Does the climax start now? Huh?
This side also has a break (surprise surprise!) which has the same mysterious vocals like the a-side. The melody is somewhat more uplifting and happy than in The Fear Of Darkness and the synth is also a bit more exciting. I really don’t have to tell you anything about the kicks, because they don’t differ much from the kicks on the a-side.

End conclusion: There is no real winner. Both tracks are rather average and bland nu-style tracks which will probably be forgotten in a short period of time. The production is not that good and Headhunterz could probably have done better. One + is that he finally changed his kicks.

Tracklist:

  • A. Headhunterz – The Fear Of Darkness
  • B. Headhunterz – A New Day

Verdict: 57/100
