Stormrage has a been a quiet achiever in the hardcore scene with a track released via the K.N.O.R label, and productions featured on his own label Dirt Industry. In 2010, Stormrage remixed ‘Ain’t No Stoppin’ This’ by Delirium & Tellurian, which was featured on Cenobite Digital 1. Peter steps up to plate with Cenobite Digital 10, and provides a quality mainstream hardcore release with influences from the trance and psy-trance genres. The release also features a remix from Painbringer.

Freedom’s Progress is a powerful track that features a heavy mainstream-like kick and some serious synth and melody work, on par with some of the bigger names in the scene. This is truly a work of art. The breakdown features a piano-like synth that builds up to a great trance melody. The vocals are strong, and the track creates a wonderful atmosphere. In my opinion Stormrage’s work is going to be some of the benchmark mainstream in the next few years.

Painbringer‘s remix of Freedom’s Progress starts off with a very atmospheric and beautiful intro that uses the same melody as the Stormrage track. Painbringer builds the track up with a lovely structure, and a great artcore-like kick. Painbringer brings his own artcore styled synth melody in and really creates his own powerful version of a very strong track.

We Are The Cenobites has more of an old school flavour to it, and reminds me of some of the Ferox tunes on Bionic Recordings that were very popular during the time of release. After a minute long intro a clean yet rough-sounding kick comes in and works it way into the main breakdown. A trance-based melody builds and the track drops into a very atmospheric piece of music.

Leviathan – We’ll Tear Your Soul Apart (Stormarge Remix) lets Stormrage have his say on the classic Cenobite hardcore track. It is a great newer sounding version of an important track in the labels history. It’s great to see Stormrage (and Advanced Dealers) bringing a modern mainstream sound to an earlier style of hardcore, and in the process, creating very cool and original sounding tracks.

If you are a fan of the older artcore and trancecore styles, or a fan of the modern mainstream sound, we suggest you check out this solid piece of hardcore that will be fondly remembered for years to come. Well done Stormrage and Cenobite for providing the scene with such an artistic piece of musical history.

Angel hails from Poland, and now lives in the hardcore capital of the world; The Netherlands. Angel has had a release on the highly respected US-based Industrial Strength label, and has a new release with the label due out this month. Angel will play her first major set at Prspct XL15 Indoor Festival later this month, alongside such artists as Hellfish, Radium, The Outside Agency and I:gor. The Harder View wishes Angel the best of luck with the set!

We would also like to send out a big thanks to Angela for taking the time to take part in this interview!

THV: Hi, Angel. Thanks for the interview. Can you tell us a bit about how you became a fan of the hardcore genre?
Angel: I have been in love with techno since I was a teenager. Later came hard techno and schranz music. After I started DJ’ing I was always on the lookout for a new energetic sounds. One day in 2007 I was looking for new records at Juno Records and then I discovered a song that simply blew my mind. It was the Rude Awakening remix of Void Settler’s Nightfall Deceit. After that I started to buy more and more records from labels like The Third Movement, Otaku, Genosha and Industrial Strength. I fell in love with heavy, raw kickdrums.

THV: How long have you been producing and how did you learn to produce?
Angel: I started producing and writing my own music in 2007 when I was still living in London. Back in those days I was regularly picking up Computer Music Magazine. Inspired by one of their issues I decided to just give it a try and tried to make a track. I started with a very simple program called Magix Music Maker. I remember making my first ever song in it. It was just bunch of weird sounds I put together. At that time I thought it was the most amazing song ever. After learning more about production I moved on to Ableton Live and FL Studio. FL Studio is now definitely my favorite program to do music in. When I moved to the Netherlands I was lucky enough to get music production tips from Frank Nitzinsky of The Outside Agency. He taught me so much about music production. Everything was finally starting to make sense and I was able to give life to the sounds that were floating around in my head. Ophidian has also been very nice with constructive feedback on my tracks. I recently got some tips from Noel from The Outside Agency on making kickdrums. You’ll hear these new tricks on my 3rd EP.

THV: Do you have any main inspirations when it comes to production?
Angel: Yes, at the base of it all is techno, Jack Bauer, Coca-Cola and milk chocolate!

THV: You have recently done a release on the highly respected Industrial Strength Records label. How did that release come about and what was it like working for such a label?
Angel: It was all extremely unexpected. When I finished a few tracks I sent demos to several labels. They were mostly hard techno labels and none of them was interested in my tracks because they were too hard. I also sent a demo to Industrial Strength but didn’t hear anything from them, either. When I met Sei2ure he insisted I should send another demo to Lenny because he was sure Lenny would love it. I resent the demo and Lenny wrote back the next day and that’s how it all started. I’m still working with ISR and both Lenny and Jules have been extremely supportive. Lenny believes in me and that and their support means a lot to me.

THV: Have you been booked for many events? Is this something you plan on doing in the future?
Angel: Not since I left London and moved to the Netherlands. I played quite regularly in London. Just recently I’ve stared getting e-mails from promoters who are interested in booking me at their events. So the future is looking a little brighter and I definitely want to show the world what I can do. I have an amazing gig coming up this month at PRSPCT XL 15. The PRSPCT nights are the best underground parties in the Netherlands. Check out the sick line up!

THV: Which artists do you think are setting the bar in the hardcore scene?
Angel: The Outside Agency.

THV: Are there any artists you would like to collab with one day? Who and why?
Angel: I have this weird dream about collaborating with Pharrell Williams. He is an amazing artist. I think we could make some next level music.

THV: The hardcore scene is fairly male dominated. What’s it like as a female trying to make a name for yourself in a scene usually thought of as a males zone?
Angel: It isn’t easy. I have to deal with people thinking I don’t make my own music just because they’ve heard that there are girls out there who don’t. It’s frustrating at times, but I try to put that back into music.

THV: What can we expect from Angel in the future?
Angel: You can simply expect more. My 2nd solo EP on Industrial Strength called Hoodie Tracks is out May 4th. Here is the teaser video for it. I recently started work on my 3rd EP. I’m also planning on doing some skydiving in between releases just to shake off the tension I get from long production sessions. There is more stuff going on and in the works but I prefer to keep that as a secret for now!

THV: Any last words for your fans?
Angel: Thank you so much for all your amazing support. I never ever expected to have fans and it feels very strange and wonderful. I love you all. And please don’t forget to check out my new release on ISR. ISR DIGI 021.

Painbringer (Lammert Brouwer) returns to the scene with a 12-track album through the Cenobite Digital label. The 9th release on Cenobite Digital features Painbringer at the top of his game, once again creating his original brand of trancecore and artcore for fans of the early sounds of the electronic hardcore genre.

One Man Army is the first and title track of the album, and sets the tone for the rest of the album. The track starts of with a cool breakbeat influenced intro with vocals from the movie Training Day. A typical artcore-like synth melody follows and Painbringer brings his style to the track with big kicks and a nice fast rhythm.

The Terminator starts with an industrial-like atmosphere and features a cool vocal about machines. The kick has a nice pitched sound to it, and is a bit different to the usual kicks Painbringer works with. I liked this track because of the industrial influence it has. Not many of the older artcore and trancecore tracks had industrial influences so this is a nice change for the album and genres as a whole.

Hellraiser Endgame brings back the Cenobite flavor of yesteryear and opens with a vocal from the one and only Pinhead. The track quickly builds, and before we know it the breakdown is introduced. More artcore and trancecore-like synths and big kicks make this a typical Cenobite Records track, and one for fans of the labels work. It really creates a great atmosphere and pounds along at a great pace. Time to die!

One Son opens with ambient-like sweeps and synths, which is followed by a great breakbeat line which builds into a great combination of filtered kicks. There is no vocals in this track and fans of tracks without vocals should really enjoy it.

Evil Streetz is more of the typical Painbringer-style and features cool rap lyric stabs. Great pads and synths make this one of the better tracks of the release in my opinion, and it really show’s Painbringer’s knowledge of the production techniques used in this older style of hardcore.

Statement (feat. The Cyberdemon) is one of the heavier tracks of the release and features a really cool kick drum. More rap-style vocal’s come in and the track flows with a great pace before the first breakdown. In my opinion, it’s one of the better tracks of the release for sure. I love the artcore-like melodies and the strong hardcore vibe the track creates.

On Da Edge (Stormrage Remix) is one of my favourite tracks on the release. Stromrage creates great hardcore, with strong kicks and melodies. His vocal and fx work is classy, and this track has some great elements about it. It has a modern mainstream sound to it, which differs from the majority of tracks on the album. I really hope Stormrage receives a solo release through Cenobite records soon, as his style would fit the label perfectly, just like Advanced Dealers work has.

True (Grimlock Remix) is a great track. I’d never heard of Grimlock before, but I’m keen to hear more of his work. I love the heaviness of artcore/trancecore, and I think it’s something missing from modern mainstream hardcore. This track really stands out as one of the better tracks on the release and has a great pace and flow.

True (The Untitled’s Monotron Hell Remix) reminds me more of an Unexist type of track. It has distinct sounding kick that differs from the general style of kick featured on this album, and was a welcome change. In my opinion this type of hardcore is focused too much on the kick and not enough synths or melodies are used.

Enter Tron is an interlude which is basically some synth-melodies working with each other to create an atmosphere.

Phear 101 is a dubstep influenced track. Not really my type of thing, but well made nevertheless.

For the Masses is another great track from Painbringer, and another of the better tracks of the release. I like the rasta-vocals, they work so well with hardcore. The kick is heavy, the pace is relentless and the synths are powerful!

Overall, Cenobite Records provide the scene with another quality release from the one man army – Painbringer. Grab it and hear for yourself!

Germany’s early dark hardtechno-producer, DJ and live-performer HardtraX (Rudi Holzgreve) joined forces with one of the style’s hottest newcomers from Australia to create a smashing industrial hardcore and dark hardtechno four-tracker called “On The Floor”. Melbourne-based DJ and producer Satyriasis (Rob Clark) brings some fresh blood into the more obscure, harder side of the electronic scene and together with HardtraX he comes up with new, creative ideas to blow your minds and speakers. The sinister type of dark hardtechno-sound from the original version of “On The Floor” is turned into twisted, hardcore-influenced tunes with an industrial touch in three banging remixes the EP comes with.

Exclusive to The Harder View, this free release promises to impress with four straight-forward, bone-crushing tunes containing aggressive beats paired with distorted percussions, gloomy synth-sounds and a hard-shaking rhythm. The complete package comes with high-resolution artwork, the original version of the track, a stunning reconstruction by Satyriasis and two additional versions created by HardtraX – all free of charge for you!

We would like to send out a big thanks to Rudi and Rob for the tracks, and we hope you enjoy the release!

Advanced Dealers (Emanuele De Bon) is one of the rising names in the hardcore scene, due to his cool blend of mainstream hardcore and the older trancecore sound. His latest release is Trancecore 2.0, through the Cenobite Records label. It’s a top notch release, which is a big step up in production quality from his previous release. You can really hear how much Emanuele has progressed with his musical knowledge and production skill since his last release through the Cenobite label.

Destroy is a powerful mainstream hardcore track with influences of trancecore especially in the melody. The vocal work is some of the best vocal work I have heard since the early Enzyme darkcore days. It’s violently powerful, and anger provoking lyrics create a great atmosphere and is what hardcore should be all about – creating a sense of power for the listener. Great pace and rhythm, big pouding kicks, great use of synths and melodies, cool vocals – I can’t ask for much more in hardcore.

Hero is a track I have been waiting to be released for a couple of years now. I heard Emanuele playing it at the Cenobite “Machines in Motion” party on a Youtube video and have always wanted to hear a full version of the untitled track. Well we now have Hero, and it’s a great track with psychedelic synth work and great kicks. I love the pauses in the kick patterns. Advanced Dealers really knows how to create an atmospheric trance based melody and they just seem to work so well with his brand of hardcore. It’s a very well made track.

Stalker is the darkest track of the release, and really reminds me of the old artcore sound made for a new era of hardcore fans. This is hardcore at it’s finest! I love the windy synths in this track and the way the track builds up to the melodies. Great FX work and great kicks make this one of the better tracks (production-wise) of the release.

Overall, this release is a must have for all hardcore fans in my opinion. Fans of the old artcore and trancecore sounds from labels like Ruffneck, H2oh, Mokum, Bionic and Cenobite will get just as much out of this release as fans of the newer mainstream style from labels like Masters of Hardcore and Traxtorm. It’s powerful yet uplifting in the best sense of the word. We suggest you check it out!

Matt has played at many of the leading hardcore events in Europe inlcuding Club r_AW, Ground Zero, Nightmare Outdoor, Raving Nightmare, Earthquake, Mysteryland, Defqon.1, Dominator and Masters of Hardcore.

We would like to thank Matt for the interview, The Harder View really appreciates it! Special thanks to Al Twisted for conducting the interview.

Al: Hi Matt, how are you and how was your weekend?
Matt Green: Yes mate was wicked, was in Germany for some speedy fucked up party, drinks and potato wedges with Tripped beforehand!

Al: You have been doing this Hardcore thing for some time now, how did it all start?
Matt Green: I have to give massive respect to Traffik for this, one of those perfect old school answers to this question. In 93/94 I was well into pirate station Energy FM as it was prominant in the Croydon area. Was looking for Jungle and instead heard this nasty punk shit coming out, was hooked. The idea that we played together and made tunes together later on is one of those precious moments Have to give Public Enemy respect too, their style influenced me massively.

Al: Apart from The Hardcore in recent years you also started to produce and release Dubstep, have you found your material well recieved? Also is their a style you prefer and what other Dubstep artists / labels would you recommend to a Hardcore Head?
Matt Green: Its an odd one with Dubstep, the style I originally liked almost doesnt exist anymore, crazy how the scene exploded and to be honest, became so gheigh at times. Love deep, depressing down tempo shit to balance out the Core shit, dont connect the two and maybe this is a problem. First 3 in 2007 went down very well, hard to keep up with a changing scene other than just doing what you feel.

Al: You ran your famous Corrupt Records label from 1998 to 2007 and featured the likes of Traffik, Deathmachine, Drokz and Fracture 4 but the label ceased and you started two new label projects. Can you tell us all about these and why the change?
Matt Green: Yeah, I was getting a stupid amount of demos ranging from Doom to Splitter, didnt suit my personal style. Also from 2004 I took the tempo down (which was bad timing for me cos that was Europe kind of accepted breaks), I like to hear the tail of kickdrums, power shit!

Al: When not busy producing, playing live and doing music stuff how do you relax?
Matt Green: I love my films, nerdy sample spotters will have probably clocked that. Like travelling and one of the best things about what I do is going places for free and more to the point, being welcomed by the natives and given a very untouristic experience.

Al: In the last few months you relocated from the UK to live in, Poland, how are you enjoying living there now? Also can you tell us where why the move?
Matt Green: Yeah, I moved around a bit in the last 10 years, Italy, Vienna and now Warsaw. I love Poland and most people dont know jack shit about the place. Just like to experience different places and London wasnt cutting it for me with its fucking rent and bullshit. Cant deny the music and creativity that comes out of UK, we certainly originate a fair bit. Thankfully flights and shit are easy and cheap enough from PL and it doesnt make any real difference in terms of travel times.

Al: I have had the pleasure of seeing you play live many times, and you always rock the place, your also a skilled Dj. Lately you have been mainly doing Dj sets, do you prefer these or is there another reason?
Matt Green: The laptop thing really started to bug me for multiple reasons, one being that my back hurt after cos always lower than decks. Others being, the excess baggage thing in the past, power convertors for EU and of course the fact that you are flying around with a sensitive piece of equipment. I love the flexibility of DJing and nothing has changed as I still play my own shit. Not crazy about the nerdy staring into the screen pics of me over the years lol.

Al: You have played some pretty big gigs over the years such as Dominator, Defqon, Mysteryland, Ground Zero to name some of the festivals. Do you prefer the bigger events or small ones? Also which countries do you enjoy playing in the most?
Matt Green: I love Belgium for the down to earth way they do things but of course NL has its massive gigs that just cant be fucked with. I like hitting new countries and seeing new generations being exposed to the music, they have the freshness and energy like in late 80s/early 90s. UK of course is always mad and it is so cool to have people who actually understand the humour in my music.

Al: Who are some of your favourite artists? In terms of producers, live artists, Djs and general influences on your own music?
Matt Green: Well, obviously artists that have been on Corrupt are the first choices. There are some people out there who ignite my interest but it seems in some genres people come and go quickly. I still love 90s Hardcore, from the faster DOA/Nasenbluten shit to the French dark, moody shit! Would be VERY happy if certain styles made a comeback… although Frenchcore still does exist… in some form.

Al: In terms of music and new releases what else can we expect in 2012 from Matt Green?
Matt Green:Just more mate, got a fucking notebook full of things to sample, shit to do and tunes to make. More collabs with dudes and steady progression forward. Am feeling the noisy, nasty punky shit at the mo.

Al: Anything else you’d like to add?
Matt Green: Yeah, with the world changing at a fucking rapid rate and music becoming something that simply doesnt exist in physical form, the general public have to remember that it isnt about money but if they simply just download everything illegally then at some point all these artists that they love and big up so much are gonna suffer. Not being a greedy prick cos there is fuck all money in Core compared to other scenes but the way some people act on the net sometimes….. Saying that though, also some seriously passionate people out there, dedication is their thing, cheers for the support!

The label is now sadly defunct, but The Wishmaster has enjoyed a career spanning over a decade with labels such as Bionic Recordings, Choose or Lose and nowadays on his home label at The Third Movement.

Thanks for the interview Fulvio, The Harder View really appreciates it!

THV: Hey Fulvio! The Wishmaster has been around the scene since 2001 and has become one of the most recognisable names. Can you tell us a bit about what it took for you to get to the stage you’re at now?
The Wishmaster: Ciao Belli! What to say… I have been working on this project almost 10 hours a day since 1996 to get to the stage I am at now! Life can be hard if you have a big dream like this, you never stop fighting with technological equipment and improvement in general. I spent the last 15 years of my life closed up in an underground studio… nice isn’t it?! All your friends are out for a night pizza but no… you can not go out cause the synth does not sound as it should… time to go back into the studio!

THV: Can you tell us how The Wishmaster starts a new track in his studio?
The Wishmaster: It can be with different approaches, sometimes I start losing my mind on a synth and when a good sound comes up I start to imagine the track around it. Sometimes I start to work on my 909 linked with some filters and again, when a powerful bass comes out of my speaker I start to work on a strong sound that can feature with it… sometimes I just wake up in the middle of the night with some strange notes in my head and start to try reproduce it in my studio!

THV: Which hardcore artists inspire or have inspired you in the past?
The Wishmaster: 3 names over all – PCP, PROMO, RUFFNECK. That was the sound of my major inspiration since 1993

THV: You have played at some major events including Dominator, Q-Base, Ground Zero, Nightmare Outdoor, Nature One and Masters of Hardcore among others. Which events have been most memorable to play at?
The Wishmaster: After a few big events in Italy and in Switzerland in the year 2001-2004 (that was my first impact with big audiences) I think the most memorable party for me was in 2004 at Defqon.1, that was my first time into a big Dutch event and it was just amazing! After that all the other major events up untill the last Dominator a few weeks ago has been memorable!

THV: What was it like working for D-Boy Records? D-Boy Records was a very popular label during the time it was around. I would love to see a return of the D-Boy label!
The Wishmaster: For me all it started with D-Boy Records, so I have a lot of good memories of that period. I gave Luca (Digital Boy) my first demo in the year 1998, after a few refused ones, in the year 2000 I finally signed up my first music contract for the ‘’Hardcore Clan’’ EP. At that period D-Boy Records was the leading party organizer for the Italian scene, so I had the great chance to play at several events organized in the world famous club ‘’Gheodrome’’ in Rimini. What a great honour to be a D-Boy Black label producer at that period! About a return of the D-boy label, I think times are different now and it will be unfortunately quite hard to see that again.

THV: How has the move over to The Third Movement been for you? Can you tell us difference between working with Dutch and Italian hardcore labels?
The Wishmaster: Working for The Third Movement was another dream becoming true. I was there when it had been created that day in Amsterdam, but I could not take part of it because I was working for D-Boy Records in that period. Now, a few years later I am working for the Movement, isn’t that cool?! I didn’t work for all the Italian labels so I can just say what I experienced in my personal past, well, in my experience the major difference between an Italian and a Dutch Hardcore label is the reliability. With The Third Movement office there is always someone to answer after a few minutes to your mails, your phone calls, your requests and your questions… to say that in Italian ‘’Operativita’’ !

THV: You also worked with Placid K’s label Choose or Lose and Cardiac’s Bionic Recordings. How were these labels to work for? Again, the were both respected labels during the time they were around.
The Wishmaster: In my career I’ve had the chance to collaborate with almost all the major worldwide record labels and every record label has his own way of working and thinking, I never choose a record label for the success it has but just for the kind of sound that is being produced on it. At that period I was feeling like collaborating with Choose or Lose and then with the Cardiac crew, but that was just some collaboration EP’s now with The Third Movement we have a long term project… and that’s a big change!

THV: You have collaborated with many great artists in the past including DJ Promo and Life Runs Red. Can we expect any more collabs in the future? Are their any artists you would like to collab with one day?
The Wishmaster: A lot of great artists I would love to collaborate with for different reasons, and I hope this will become an EP soon. I would love to make a collaboration with the most famous name of every label so it’s easy to find out what the names are!

THV: What can we expect from The Wishmaster in the future? Can we expect a The Wishmaster artist album anytime soon?
The Wishmaster: Is definitely a project I have on mind since a long time already, I hope 2012 will be the good year to make it happen!

THV: And lastly, any words for your fans?
The Wishmaster: A new Wishmaster EP will be out after the summer, 3 tracks in a perfect Wishmaster style, so stay tuned and keep it hard!
